Which of you hasn`t ever been slapped on the wrist when he made things intentionally wrong or bad? Of course all of us happened to have such
experiences in our early childhood.
But our idiom is quite about another subject. “A slap on the wrist” means a very mild punishment and for its better understanding let`s bring a comparison that abound in bright images and explains this idiom:
“Jesus` death on the cross was just a slap on the wrist compared to the punishment for those who do not repent.” Although, we all know what a “slap” were Jesus` sufferings on the Calvary and what benefits we have out of there.
“He was despised and forsaken of men… He was pierced through for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities… As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge, the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many. And He will bear their iniquities.” (Isaiah 53:3,5,11)
God is abundant in love and mercy toward those who choose to follow His directions, but “His wrath is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.” (Rom. 1:18-19)
